Serbia 2005 – a basketball fairy tale! The German national team, led by Nowitzki in his prime, exceeded all expectations and won silver at the European Championships. The artwork “Verteidigen. Verteidigen.” immortalizes the magical semifinal thriller against Spain (74:73), in which Nowitzki excelled with 27 points and catapulted Germany into the final with a cool game-winning shot.
Nowitzki as Hercules – his eternal comparison. The image shows him in parallel to Heracles' fight against the Cretan bull as he tames the Spanish armada led by Pau Gasol. Frank Buschmann's legendary TV commentary “Verteidigen. Verteidigen.” becomes the title of the work.
