There are moments that seem so surreal they could have come straight out of a cartoon. September 8, 2023, was one such moment. Germany versus the USA in the World Cup semifinals—a basketball superpower against a team caught up in the frenzy of its own history. Then came Andi Obst.
The painting “Mad Sexy” captures this madness perfectly. Staged in comic book style, it shows the decisive three-pointer that turned the basketball world upside down. Obst, with an ice-cold crossover against Tyrese Haliburton, leaves his opponent lying on the floor. Obst shoots. The ball rises, the USA freezes. Swish. Germany leads, Germany wins. The world power USA falls.
